Chequers sort of looks like it is trying to be a cut above the rest. A fish and chip shop shouldn't doll itself up because at the end of the day it sells the same thing as the next place around the corner. The sign is quite sleek and when you go in the menu above the counter is in a minimalist style with the décor in grey and white. Rather than getting the classy vibe it felt more clinical to me and not like a welcoming chip shop should be.
The guy behind the counter was really friendly. The mini fish and chips I had were pretty standard. The chips were nothing to write home about and the fish was an improvement on the chips but still not amazing.
